Protect Yourself,

Your Property

Our Mission

The Mission at OILAR LAND MANAGEMENT is to help our community achieve greater safety from wildfires through the reduction of fuel loads that could feed the fire. Ladder fuel reduction equals lower fire risk, more time to escape and a much higher chance of saving structures and lives.

We are here to help.

Why Our Service is Important: Defensible Space Creation

With each property we work on, the fuel reduction effect is immediate and obvious. Where there is nothing to burn, the fire has nowhere to spread to. Greater safety is achieved with each additional foot of fuel reduction.

Making the investment to reduce the ladder fuels and fuel loads that feed wild fires is the most proactive and effective way a homeowner in this area can protect themselves and their property.

What is a LADDER FUEL?

A fuel ladder or ladder fuel is a firefighting term for live or dead vegetation that allows a fire to climb up from the landscape or forest floor into the tree canopy. Common ladder fuels include tall grasses, shrubs, and tree branches, both living and dead. The removal of fuel ladders is an important part of defensible space “firescaping practices”.

The buildup of ladder fuels, which carry fire from the surface of the forest floor to tree crowns, is one of the critical changes, and it has contributed to uncharacteristically large and severe fire. The abundance of ladder fuels makes it difficult to return these forests to their natural regime or meet management objectives.

What OILAR LAND MANAGEMENT Can Do for YOU

  1. Once on your property, we provide an evaluation of the ladder fuel load and determine best methods of fuel reduction. We work with you to help you better understand the types and distribution of ladder fuels on your property, and determine the amount of space that should be cleared in order to create Defensible Space. We are guided by recommendations of CalFire. As of 2009, if you live in State Responsibility Area (SRA), you are responsible for ensuring that your property is in compliance with California’s building and fire codes that call for homeowners to take proactive steps to protect their property from a wildfire.

California law requires that homeowners in SRA clear out flammable materials such as brush or vegetation around their buildings to 100 feet (or the property line) to create a defensible space buffer. This helps halt the progress of an approaching wildfire and keeps firefighters safe while they defend your home.

  2. We make an appointment to begin the pre-determined work in a timely and efficient manner.

  3. We will work to reduce the immediate fire danger from ladder fuels. We use our state-of-the-art mastication machine to mow ladder fuels to the ground. With our large dump trailer, we will remove any and all trash that is pre-agreed for removal to a place on your property or to the dump. We will use chainsaws if necessary to knock down dead and dying trees on the property, and remove the risk created by these hazards.

  4. We will work with you to determine all methods for creating a more fire-safe defensible space. This may include installation of watering systems designed to wet down at-risk areas during a fire. Our number-one job is to work with the home/property owner to make them feel more fire-safe in their space.
